Get to Know Lucky Aiyedatiwa

Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, born on January 12, 1965, is a Nigerian entrepreneur and politician currently serving as the governor of Ondo State since 2023. Prior to this, he held the position of deputy governor under Governor Rotimi Akeredolu from 2021 to 2023 and has a background as a former commissioner of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Aiyedatiwa, hailing from Obe-Nla, an oil-rich community in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, had his early education at Saint Peter’s UNA Primary School in Obe Nla/Obe Adun from 1970 to 1976. He later attended Ikosi High School, Ketu, Lagos, graduating in 1982.

His academic journey continued with a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in Economics and Government from Lagos State College of Education in 1986, followed by an Advanced Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Ibadan in 2001.

Furthering his education, he obtained a Post Graduate Certification in Chief Executive Education (CEP) in Business Management from Lagos Business School in 2009 and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Liverpool in 2013.

Lucky’s professional career kicked off as an Inventory/Store Officer at Scoa Assembly Plant Plc., Apapa, Lagos, from 1982 to 1983. Over the years, he assumed roles such as Assistant Head Teacher, Marketing Officer, and General Merchandise Manager in various establishments.

In 1996, he founded the Blue Wall Group of Companies, which includes Blue Wall Nigeria Ltd (a trading company), Blue Wall BDC Nigeria Ltd (a CBN-licensed foreign exchange trading company), and Blue Wall Safety Travels and Tours (an IATA-licensed Travel Agency and Logistic Company).

Entering the political arena in 2011 as a member of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), he later became part of the All Progressive Congress (APC) after a merger of political parties.

Lucky played a role as a National Delegate from Ondo State at the APC National Convention in Abuja in 2014 and contested for the federal House of Representatives in the 2015 Presidential and National Assembly General Election.

His political journey continued, serving as the federal commissioner representing Ondo State on the Board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) from 2018 to 2019.

In the 2020 Ondo State gubernatorial election, he was selected as the running mate for Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Governor Akeredolu were elected governor and deputy governor of Ondo State on October 11, 2020, and were sworn into office on February 25, 2021.

Aiyedatiwa assumed the role of acting governor on December 12, 2023, during Governor Akeredolu’s medical leave for leukemia treatment, having previously served in the same capacity from June to September 2023.
