Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, participated in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2024, held in Ivory Coast. Coached by José Peseiro, the team competed in Group A against Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast, and Guinea-Bissau.
Their first two group matches were held at the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara D’Anyama, with the third game played at the Stade Félix-Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan.

Making it to the final, they faced Ivory Coast, showcasing a strong defense, conceding only one goal in their last five matches. Notably, Osimhen stood out with one goal and stellar performances.
This success marked a significant achievement for the Super Eagles, aiming for their fourth AFCON title and first in a decade.

Super Eagles 2024 Coach

As of now, there hasn’t been any confirmation regarding his future with the Nigeria Football Federation. Peseiro took over the role in December 2021 but didn’t manage the team during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Instead, he observed while Augustine Eguavoen led the team. Under Peseiro’s guidance, the Super Eagles reached the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations but lost to Ivory Coast.
Although there were issues with his salary payments, Peseiro’s contract with Nigeria was reportedly renewed after the tournament.
He’s been linked with the vacant coaching position at Algeria but hasn’t made a decision yet on whether to stay with Nigeria or accept the offer from Algeria.
