I Am Peter Obi’s Running Mate, Says Doyin Okupe: On Friday, Dr. Doyin Okupe, the former Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, announced that he was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate as Peter Obi’s running mate. When Okupe appeared on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, he revealed this.

He claimed that the party had submitted his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission. “I’m standing in as the party’s vice-presidential candidate,” Okupe remarked. “The Labour Party has nominated me as its Vice President.”

According to the News Media, the former governor of Anambra State received his certificate of return last Friday, following his election as the party’s presidential candidate in 2023. On May 30, 2022, he won the Labour Party’s convention and presidential primary in Asaba, Delta State.

Professor Pat Utomi had stepped down for Obi earlier in the convention. Peter,  According to Utomi, is a younger aspirant with the ability to bring about the necessary changes in the Nigerian system. In addition, Joseph Faduri, 45, a former governor’s aspirant, stepped down in favor of the former governor.

On May 25, Peter Obi, a Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, resigned from the party and withdrew from the presidential race on the party’s platform.

He announced his resignation in a letter to the PDP National Chairman dated May 24 titled “Resignation From PDP and Withdrawal from the Presidential Contest.” Obi attributed the decision to recent developments within PDP in the letter.

In the 2015 presidential election, Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, was also the party’s running mate for PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar. He was one of 15 candidates vying for the PDP presidential ticket until his defection.
