As at the time of reporting this report, the incident’s details were still hazy.
Our source learned that the conflict began after a post was allegedly circulated on social media accusing a Christian girl in the community of blasphemy against Islam.
The incident was reported by a source who talked to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, stating, “Yes, the story is factual.” It is a result of the alleged blasphemy incident that occurred in Sokoto last week.
“What I found out was that a Christian girl apparently posted and commented on something on social media related to the Sokoto event, and that’s how it all started,” he said.
“Since many houses have been burned down, the atmosphere is more than just tense.” To the best of my knowledge, no lives were lost.
“A business belonging to an ECWA Church in the neighbourhood was also set ablaze. I also learned that the area’s District Head and leaders are on top of the matter. It has also been reported to the police.”
“We were at home this evening when we heard shouting from some Muslim youngsters who went on the rampage and besieged an ECWA Church in the region,” another person stated.
“However, Christian teenagers and others resisted and dispersed them, but only after they had burned down a church-affiliated shop.” The rioting teenagers set fire to many homes.
“One of the ECWA church’s pastors was gravely injured in the process; as I speak to you now, efforts are on to save his life.”
In a telephone discussion with journalists, one of the state’s leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria confirmed the occurrence.
He stated that the state’s Commissioner of Police and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Bauchi State on Christian Religious Affairs are both aware of the situation.
He urged the Bauchi State’s Christian community not to allow the situation to deteriorate.
Attempts to obtain confirmation from the Bauchi State Police Command were unsuccessful, as multiple calls to the Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, were neither answered or returned. as of the time of filing this report.
